Minsk was first settled over 900 years ago in 1067. Not many real ancient monuments have remained in Minsk, much of old Minsk was razed to the ground during World War II. Minsk city today is the city of wide streets, modern and old architectural ensembles, fountains, shady parks and green boulevards.

Among the sights that you will see are:

  • Independence Square with the House of Government (1929-1933)
  • the "Red" Krasny Roman Catholic Church (1908)
  • Victory Square with its 38 meters high grey obelisk and eternal flame commemorating the heroes of World War II
  • The National Library building
  • Troitskoye Predmestye (Trinity Suburb) - restored buildings of the 19th century, one of the most old areas in Minsk
  • Afgan Monument on the island of tears
  • "Upper town" (now the Liberty Square region) with two main churches of two main confessions in Belarus - the Orthodox Holy Spirit Cathedral (1642), and the Catholic Saint Virgin Mary Cathedral
  • St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral (1611)
